Taking Pets on a ferry
Most ferry services are pet friendly on most routes, but not all, its worth checking on ferry websites to double check before you book if you intend on taking a pet, however on the Dover to Calais route you are usually ok.
PETS Travel Scheme
The Pet Travel scheme or (PETS) is a system put into place to help pets travel on ferries and enter the UK without any quarantine regulations, as long as they meet certain cirteria.
Once the pet has met the criteria of PETS, they can then ferry their pet freely from port to port wihout the need for quaratine.
The PETS scheme only applies to domestic animals such as cats and dogs. This does not allow other types of animals to board a ferry such as rabbit, guinea pig or hamster etc.
The PETS schcme is limited and only operates from certain countries.
The DEFRA web site contains all the necessary information needed for anyone intending to travel with their cats or dogs. Animals cannot travel unaccompanied.
